SONOMA, CA — Red Bull Subaru MRT was the team to beat at the Sonoma Raceway on Tuesday. After having two tough races to open the championship, Josh Mertz proved why he is the man to beat in NASA RallyCross, as the five time champion won seeding, his heat race, and the final, leading every lap in both races. The German notched up his thirty-sixth career win in NASA RallyCross, and the first for MRT and himself on iRacing with the Gen-4 regulations. Marwan Moftah extends his championship lead over Ray Kingsbury, as for the second consecutive week the Egyptian led the American home on the podium. This wasn’t without controversy, as Kingsbury came together with his brother and Philip Kraus at multiple points during the race. The only driver that was not involved with the midfield battle was Jacob Harberts, as the American crashed on the opening lap of the race and had to bring the privateer Last Lap Motorsports entry home last in the final. Interestingly, Revolution Racing missed the final with both cars for the first time since the 2018A Canadian RX GP. Next week, the tour heads back to Daytona, running the short layout that was featured last season. Can Mertz make it two in a row at the layout and for the season? We will have to see…
